We are situated in the fertile, temperate Eastern Cape coastal region of
South Africa.
  Farming
activity started here about 150 years ago, and after diversifying it was
found to be ideally climatically suited to ostriches.
Owner,
Peter Rautenbach, is at the helm of all activities. With 30 years of experience in all aspects of farming, he is
the guiding force behind his team of co-workers. Assisting with administration and marketing is his wife, Elisabeth.
 Partner,
Bryan Landman, is our ostrich expert. Under his watchful eyes the day-old chicks are nurtured under
optimum conditions until they reach maturity. Our birds roam freely on lush lucerne pastures, which assures a
superior quality unblemished skin, for which Grasmere Ostriches is known.
Bryan is also responsible for the sale of the skins.
Our
skins are tanned at the renowned Woods Tanning Company in Uitenhage, which
uses a semi-aniline dyeing process to achieve perfect results.
The skins are tanned and coloured according to customer
requirements, which is a very technical process taking about six weeks to
complete.
All
items on offer here are made from our own ostrich skins by a professional
family concern that has been in the leather industry for generations.
All clasps and metal parts are made in Italy. We pride ourselves in offering our customers fine quality
craftsmanship.
Gill Landman, Bryan's wife, is responsible for the daily running of the
boutique and dispatching your orders.
She will happily accommodate special requests and will address all
queries. Because of the
exclusivity of our products and the wide colour choice available, a period
of ± 10 weeks is normal for delivery. This will ensure that you are totally satisfied with the unique
product you will receive from Grasmere Ostriches.
