Grasmere Farm was bought in the 1970’s by the Rautenbach family. Originally a wheat farm, owner Peter Rautenbach also experimented with dairy farming and sheep. Peter met Bryan Landman in the 1990’s and after some persuasion from Bryan decided to try ostrich faming on a partnership basis. The rest as they say is history. Grasmere Ostriches is a close knit, dedicated farming concern endeavouring to provide our customers with excellent hands on service while delivering products of the highest standard at the best prices possible.
Today Bryan and Gill Landman reside on Grasmere with their two children while Peter and his wife Elisabeth live on a neighbouring farm Soutvlei.
The two farms operate together with Grasmere housing the boutique, incubators and breeding birds while Soutvlei provides space for the running of our, on average, 3000 ostriches.

Peter holds a directorate role in the business with Elisabeth providing the artistic talent for brochure design and interior design of the boutique.

Elisabeth is also a garden expert and created a beautiful indigenous garden outside the boutique.

Bryan oversees the day to day farming activities, as well as quality control in the dying of the skins. He grades the skins and determines what will be sold to the overseas market. Bryan also ensures that the correct inoculation and tagging processes are adhered to, something that is very important if the ostrich meat is to be exported.

Gill is in control of hatching and dispatching, the hatching of the chicks and the dispatching of orders, as well as any questions pertaining to the boutique. Please contact her for any additional information you may need regarding available stock, colours, styles and expected delivery time.
